Why Do People Pray for Prosperity?

By Zoe Smith

Who doesn't want to be rich? Every man and woman was born with the instinctive desire to fill their lives with good things, and there is nothing wrong with that. There are certain people who mistakenly think that to want more than the bare minimum in life is noble and acceptable - they couldn't have been more wrong. It is this kind of thinking that will give you a less than fulfilling and unsatisfactory life. If you don't know it yet, let me tell you today Friend-- your destiny is wealth. You only have to believe this and desire it with all your heart for it to come to pass.

Children live uncomplicated lives. What do they do when they want something? They ask. We too can ask and pray for prosperity and expect to receive it simply because we are meant to be in abundance. You heard right, you can be rich and nothing but your own thinking can stop you from realizing this truth. Do you know that many great people, known and unknown, have said prayers of prosperity with unbelievable results? Truly, it doesn't matter where we've been, what we've done or who we are-we can all have amazing lives.

Few people know who Jabez is - indeed there are about 4 lines written about his life in the whole world and it is only found in the Bible (1 Chronicles 4:10). As far as prayers for prosperity goes; his' rank among one of the best. This was his prayer: "Oh, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!"

His mother called him Jabez, the Hebrew word for 'cause of pain'. We can imagine that his family life did not bode well for his future; however, this did not stop him from crying out to God for more in his life. Can you feel the intensity and heartfelt desire in his prayer? You will also notice that Jabez also asked God to keep him from fulfilling what his name said he was-- a cause of pain. The last line of the verse succinctly summarized the success of his prayer: God granted him what he requested.

What can we learn from this man's success story? Anyone can be prosperous. Have faith not just in the power of God to bring it to pass, but in His goodness to want that for you as well. Many times it is not a question of whether God can; but if He will. Know that He will because you are His creation and this world was made for us to enjoy. When you pray for prosperity, do not forget to pray for the grace that you also not be a cause of sorrow for anyone else.

To be prosperous is easy once you know your God personally. Understand your place in the world and be bold in seeking Him - you will find that the outpouring of your blessings will naturally overflow to other people's lives as well. Remember, you were born to not just for success - you were born to be significant.
