How to Overcome Low Self Esteem

By Zoe Smith

One of the most important things we will ever learn is how to love ourselves. By doing so, we will live a more beautiful life because we see things more clearly and we do not put undue expectations on the people in our lives. Unfortunately, many people today are walking with their heads bowed down. Find out how to overcome low self esteem with a few simple and practical tips today.

1. Know yourself. Take stock of your strengths and limitations. Have a healthy perspective on what your weaknesses are but choose to focus on your strengths more. Think of all the things that you love to do. Then-do it! Give yourself a license to enjoy life because when you do, loving yourself becomes so much easier to do.

2. Give. Self-pity is one of the most destructive things you can do to yourself. It will never be of help to you. Instead of throwing yourself a pity party, celebrate another person instead! Give to somebody else without looking for anything in return. It will make anybody feel better. It doesn't even have to cost you anything. Just a simple smile or a few words of encouragement can give the person the added boost he needed for the day.

3. Trim away negative energy. What does this mean? Keep away from negative people! Definitely you should learn how to take constructive criticism well, but steer clear from people who make it their business to complain and find faults with everyone including you. Be infected with the happier crowd and see your positive energy increase and draw like energy towards you as well.

4. Accept compliments graciously. There are many people who discount themselves, thus feel embarrassed when they are complimented. Allow people to appreciate you and celebrate good qualities in you. Even if you don't necessarily think they are accurate, graciously accept their compliment and respect their opinion.

5. Don't be in comparison with people. Each person has a different story. You might feel frustrated because you don't see yourself as the person you want to be ye, not like your sister, brother or friend-but don't let that dishearten you. You'll be blessed if you keep doing what you know is right. Improving self esteem also means that you are able to be happy when other people are successful.

6. Understand that you have a purpose. You are here for a reason. Whatever traits you are born with, your race, age and family-they are all part of the reason why you are born.

You are a masterpiece fashioned by God Himself. Isn't that amazing? Improving self esteem is not a one-time event but a daily process that requires your tenacity to see it through. Only you can do it for yourself. Be happy to be alive and enjoy yourself-life can only get better from here.
