The secret of change is to focus everything on creating what you can in the present, and letting yourself slip out of the past and the future.
How do we truly change?
I am not talking about the kind of change that lasts for only a few months and then we head back to the same things we always used to do. No, I am talking about that everlasting change that permits us to advance with our lives and leave our old techniques behind. This is true change, change that will last forever. The secret is to commit everything you have in your life to building what you can in the present time.
The past will hold you down and the future will show you the greatest lie and mirage of a land where it all turns out. Both these imaginary places are stupendously dangerous because they keep us from being in action in the moment. Even though we can go there in our heads, we have to avoid living in these places at all costs.
Change isn't going to be easy. Think about how many of us try and make huge changes the on the first of the year...January 1. In fact, nearly half of people that make New Years Resolutions fail by mid February. That disconnect is huge. So there must be something astonishingly broken with that technique.
So what can we actually do?
Focus all your energy one thing, every single day, to make yourself a smidge better than the day before and do that for as long as you potentially can. Absolutely do not get obsessive about the quantum leap where everything changes all at the same time - it is a lie. Heavily focus on the daily tasks you can perform and in time you'll change more than you could possibly ever imagine.
Start the trip of change now, one step at a time.
Don't wait.
