Why Emotional Growth In Adults Is Important

By Paul Smith

Physically, you may feel your age, but emotionally you may still feel like a child. Emotional growth in adults can be stunted because of various reasons. A mature person is able to make decisions, come up with good ideas, they are able to make good conversation and they feel stable with other adults. They are comfortable in their relationships around them.

This can be referred to as arrested development or stunted growth. It is when someone has been affected during their childhood. Because of this trauma, they will battle to grow beyond a certain point. It can be difficult to survive like this because it can interfere with your personal and professional relationships. You will battle making decisions. You will feel as if you have no joy in your life.

This is because they have been affected in some way or the other. It may be because of something like physical or emotional abuse. They continue to put themselves down because of this. They will think negatively about everything in life. They will become angry and have a lot of intimacy problems which will lead to other relationship issues.

A good therapist will teach you how to take actions. They will teach you more about making decisions. They will prevent you from becoming overwhelmed in various situations. It can take a lot of time to deal with these feelings. One has to look at the trauma and how you were feeling at the time. This can relate to how you are feeling at the present time.

It can difficult to have a relationship with someone like this. They may become attached to their partner. They may be looking for the wrong type of partner. Often they will look for someone who they know they will break up with. They are often afraid of rejection and they will make sure that this doesn't have to them.

You may feel as if you are sitting with a lot of other people your age that you still just feel like a child. You may feel very awkward in this type of setting. You can even go numb. This can take you back to when you were still young being abused. You stay stuck at this age. You seem to be immature and unstable. Fortunately, there is therapy for this type of way of thinking.

It is something that you have to work on. It is a process. People need to get out of their comfort zone. In order to do this you have to talk about the scars and the hurts which have been bothering you all of your life. When you do this you will start to become more mature in your thinking and the way you come across.

It is important to look into this as soon as possible, because living a life like this is only going to bring you down. It is going to leave you without any joy in your life. You will feel unfulfilled and you will still have scars and old wounds which you will have to contend with almost every day. It takes courage to seek help, but it is so worth it.
