A Brief Guide To Transpersonal Coaching

By Allyson Burke

Traditionally a motivational speaker or coach will focus on one aspect of a client. The client may want to focus on getting a promotion or improving their relationship. There is nothing necessarily wrong with this approach. However often one problem can have a negative impact on a range of other circumstances. Therefore you may wish to consider finding transpersonal coaching services for a deeper approach to your life.

In simple terms a person is not someone who exists in a vacuum. We are the product of the lessons our parents and teachers give us, the media we consume and the community we live in. All of these things can have an impact on our lives and the way we interact with the people around us.

All of these aspects influence the behavior of an individual. A transpersonal coach looks at their client and considers what is known as the voice of their soul. As every person is unique equally the coaching that client receives has to be individual as well, recognizing that one person can have a different reaction to the same set of problems as somebody else.

The opposite is also true. If you go to work having just had an argument with your partner then it is unlikely that you will go with a positive attitude. This then means you may end up being more sensitive to criticism and this may be something noted when it comes to a report or when you are up for a promotion.

In many respects the transpersonal approach is holistic. Health is another aspect that people may not necessarily be aware of. Stress is a known factor in aggravating allergies and increasing the risk of heart attacks, strokes and other serious conditions. Stress also means people go for coping mechanisms such as comfort eating and alcohol.

In the short term a treat or a drink at the end of the day is alright and often the mental process of having something to mark the end of the day before you go home can make it easier to switch off and relax. The problem is when it starts to become a compulsion and then becomes an addiction. A coach needs to guide their client away from these coping mechanisms and look at the deeper issues behind their unhappiness and how to overcome mental obstacles.

There are a number of people that can offer this service. It can be difficult as a client needs to open up to their coach. However it is not the same as therapy. It is not so much about looking at the past and resolving inner conflict as it is looking at how those inner conflicts and wider societal influences are causing obstacles that prevent people reach their goals.

There are a number of people that offer transpersonal coaching services. It is worth looking online to compare what is available. Ideally you ought to meet them in person as some are more compatible with some people than others. Use your regular search engine to see what services are available near you as well as feedback to find the best one for you and your individual circumstances.
