7 Things You Should Learn About Coaching For Millennials

By Dennis Reed

Being a coach does not mean that you know everything. You learn on a daily basis, and you can still learn new methods of relating and mentoring people. More so, people feel relaxed and peaceful when they are around someone they can trust. Therefore, mentors should learn to connect with the people they are training. This creates a good relationship between them and makes the whole process easier. When you know what a person is going through, you will be better able to offer help. This article will help you to know several things about Coaching for Millennials.

To begin with, being authentic and empathetic is very important. Do not pretend to be another person than who you are. It is easier to connect with people when you are not pretending. More so, people will find it easy to relate with you as you will be in a better position to understand their daily struggles. Thus, always be honest and understanding.

Secondly, you should know that these people are probably smarter than you are. Therefore, you should be honest from day one. If you open up and become honest, they will understand you. Days have changed, and you can no longer tell a young person what to do. This is because they are smarter and know that they can get what they want through other ways. It is therefore important to be up-front and honest from the beginning.

Do not be quick to give praises where they are not needed. Most people think that praising the young and upcoming players will make them better. However, this is not encouraged because you may make them think that they are good enough. Therefore, encourage them to work hard so that they can earn genuine praises.

Additionally, these people have developed a character where they cannot be patient. They, therefore, want everything to happen the way they want at the time they want. Getting what you want right away may be possible, but this cannot be the case always. Thus, as their mentor, teach them the importance of being patient. Show them that the best things come to those who wait. By so doing, you will help them to become more patient.

This generation is more connected to the web than real people. Therefore, they are not able to connect better with people. As a coach who understands the importance of people skills, make sure you train them to develop better social skills. Show them that the web cannot make them social people as they need real connections.

Coaches should always encourage this young generation to be diversified. Even though this may be hard because they like being focused on one thing, show them that diversification is important. This is because they will have more things to chase in life.

Moreover, make sure that you do your best to create real relationships with these people. Having a good connection with them is the key to having a good relationship. Also, do not treat them differently because they are like other people. They also want to be successful in life with good families, kids and a nice place to call home.
