EQI 20 Certification: Children S Development Through Occupation Therapy

By Jerry Kennedy

When a child grows, they are expected to try doing certain things at a certain age. When a child doesn t make an attempt to grip things that are close to her/him at 3 months, or they don t find toys attractive at 2 years then this might be a sign that that child s development is delayed. It is important for parents to know how a child should act at all their stages of growth, that way they can monitor their children s rate of development. EQI 20 certification is a way you can help your child develop well, one of them is to give them occupational therapy toys for pre-schoolers.

Toys are not only meant for playing, they also help with the development of a child s mind. You can improve your child s senses by buying toys that evoke touching, sing or speaking, listening and seeing. Example are coloring books, they will improve the child s imagination since they will be using a lot of colors. For hearing senses, you can buy them things like drums and children s songs which will also improve their vocabulary.

The ability to use imagination can help kids to relate to their immediate environment. Pretend toys are one way of awakening kids imagination. The kids will use the pretend toys to try to behave the way they think people around them behave. For example, a young girl might assume a mother character while playing with her doll.

It will be easier for kids to imagine being a grown up, they will imagine what they see at home. So buy them something they can associate with their surroundings. For example, a telephone toy, children see parents talking on the phone all the time so they are likely going to imitate them by talking to themselves on their telephone toy.

Fine motor skills require your kid to use their hands, eyes, lips, and tongue. All these can be used to solve simple children problems. Toys that can improve a child s fine motor skills include puzzles, building blocks, play dough and pegboards. There is no way of solving a puzzle without thinking, so your child will be stimulated to think while playing and having fun.

There are great rewards in training your kid to interact with vertical surfaces since this is a pre-requisite to learning how to write. The sooner you start helping them with how to hold and use a pencil the easier it will be for them to perform well when they get to primary school. Start today by putting coloring paper on the wall for your children to encourage them to reach vertical surfaces. Or you can buy blackboards or mark pen boards and elevate them a bit on the wall.

Your child also needs to develop well physically to be able to perform day to day tasks like walking and carrying things buy him/her trampolines and bikes.

With the information provided here, as a parent you now know the importance of monitoring the development rate of your kid and ways that you can help if there any developmental delays. Occupational therapy toys for pre-schoolers may help.
